What is Microsoft SharePoint?
SharePoint is a cloud-based application that allows the team to collaborate on document development, storage, and sharing.
You can create project team pages for participants to access and collaborate on documents. You can also use it to build an intranet for the whole company, where employees can exchange news and access forms, lists, and libraries of knowledge they need to do their jobs well and efficiently, with all they need at their fingertips – all they need is internet access and they are able to work.
It makes document security easy with permission levels
When it comes to security, SharePoint makes setting access permissions a breeze. You can configure them on a person, group, or security group basis. This ensures that HR, Sales, Marketing, and Accounts can all access the files they need without having access to any they don’t.
By thinking carefully about who can see what, you can reduce your security risk by only giving access to sensitive data, to those who need it. The fewer members of the team who have access when they don’t need to, the less likely you are to suffer a cyber-attack and have your most important data compromised.
Why do I need SharePoint when I’m using Teams?
The short answer, is that there are so many different ways to configure Microsoft Products, you can tailor them to the exact needs of your business. We can’t answer this on a blog post, because our answer would be different for each and every person reading this. You might use it as more of a file storage solution, while Teams is more about instant collaboration, you might use the intranet part of it. What this really highlights, is that it’s probably best to start off having a chat with your IT provider, and telling them what you’re looking to achieve, so they can best advise on which Microsoft products to use, and how best to use them.
