Windows 11 Store to update non-Microsoft apps

Microsoft is transforming the Windows 11 Store into a more useful tool by introducing support for updating non-Microsoft apps. This long-awaited update aims to simplify things for users by allowing software updates to be carried out at one convenient location.

Previously, the Microsoft Store was limited to managing updates for applications hosted directly on its servers. Users with third-party apps downloaded from external sources often had to manually check for updates, creating unnecessary hassle. Now, with this update, the store takes a significant leap forward in becoming much more user-friendly.

The new feature enables users to see available updates for non-Microsoft apps directly within the store’s “Get Updates” section on the Downloads page. While updates for third-party apps won’t be fully automated – users still need to manually start these updates – the added visibility makes staying current with software much easier.

Currently being tested in the Windows Insider Program across all channels, this feature is already accessible to early adopters. Microsoft is gathering feedback to fine-tune the experience before rolling it out to the wider user base.

This update benefits both casual users and professionals who rely on a mix of Microsoft and third-party applications. By keeping update notifications in one place, the Microsoft Store reduces the need for multiple update processes and offers a much more convenient way to manage apps.

Though automatic updates remain exclusive to apps hosted by Microsoft, this enhancement is a welcome improvement. It highlights Microsoft’s commitment to make the Windows 11 platform more comprehensive for modern users.

For businesses and individuals alike, this change makes app management much easier, saving valuable time and simplifying operations. Keep an eye on the Microsoft Store for the official launch of this feature and start enjoying a more efficient way to handle your updates.
